Ultrasound - OB, general, vascular, echocardiography

What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of structures or organs inside the body. This test is performed by using a transducer (ultrasound wand) over the area of interest. An Ultrasound involves no radiation and is painless.

This procedure will take 30-60 minutes.

Preparation for procedure:Screening

Abdomen - Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before the exam.

Aorta – Nothing to eat or drink six hours before theexam.

Arterial – No special preparation is needed.

Breast – No special preparation is needed.

Carotid – No special preparation is needed.

Echocardiography – This service is scheduled through the Specialty Clinic. Please contact the Specialty Clinic at 641.732.6090 for more information.

Extremities – No special preparation is needed.

Parotid – No special preparation is needed.

Pelvic (OB) – Patient needs to drink 32 oz. of water one hour before the examination and should not go to the bathroom. The bladder must be full for the exam.

Pelvic (non-OB) – Patient needs to drink 32 oz. of water one hour before the examination and should not go to the bathroom. The bladder must be full for the exam.

Renal – Drink 20 oz. of water one hour before the exam and do not go to the bathroom. The bladder must be full for the exam.

Testicle – No special preparation is needed.

Thyroid – No special preparation is needed.

Vascular Screenings – No special preparation is needed.

Venous – No special preparation is needed.
