Midwest Rural Telemedicine Consortium"A service of Iowa's largest telemedicine network" The Midwest Rural Telemedicine Consortium is a joint program of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City, and Mercy Medical Center - Des Moines. These are the two hubs. The MRTC project was developed in 1993 and now includes 25 sites in Iowa including Ellsworth Municipal Hospital. Using fiber optic technology, the MRTC provides immediate communication between rural and urban health centers. This program helps share information rapidly, with the potential to improve patient outcomes.
