Quality & Safety

Our Dedication to Quality and Patient Safety

Ellsworth Municipal Hospital and its clinics use care guidelines based on the best available medical research along with collaboration and teamwork among the medical and surgical specialists within the Mercy Health Network. These guidelines are also referred to as "evidence based medicine" or "best practice guidelines." Utilization of our Electronic Health Record begun in 2008 allows information to be securely shared amongst physicians and non-physician providers at any time.

National Quality Priorities
Ellsworth Municipal Hospital focuses its quality efforts around national and state priorities and reporting our participation with those best practice measures related to various medical diagnoses such as pneumonia, heart attacks and congestive heart failure. The following organizations provide guidelines that form the backbone of the work we carry out to help ensure our patients receive quality care:

Patient Safety

Patient safety is defined as providing reliable, effective care to prevent harm, injury, and preventable death to all patients in our organization. Every patient has the right to expect that their care will be appropriately provided in a safe manner by competent staff in a safe environment. Your care and safety are our priority.
Joint Commission has developed national guidelines around patient safety that we continue to follow. We are continuing a hospital-wide and clinic initiative to take patient safety to the highest level possible including "time outs" before surgical procedures, steps to ensure correct site surgery, and reduction of medication errors to name a few.
Our electronic medical record further improves patient safety by checking for drug interactions and using "order sets" based on "best practices".

Patient Satisfaction

Those who have been to Ellsworth Municipal Hospital for an inpatient stay or Emergency Room Visit or to any of our affiliated clinics may have received a patient satisfaction survey in the mail. We encourage patients to complete the surveys because they help us make decisions that affect you. Survey responses are confidential as a private research firm tabulates them. The combined results of the survey responses help us make positive changes to our services, processes and facilities.
