Our Diabetic Educators at EMH are dedicated to raising awareness of diabetes through pre-diabetes screening and education; and educating diabetic patients about managing their condition. They work with patients referred by their physicians to learn meal planning, exercise, medication and monitoring after the diagnosis of diabetes. In addition, we have received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Office of Rural Health Policy, to help identify families exhibiting pre-diabetes and are at-risk to develop Diabetes.
EMH’s Diabetes Self Management Education program, recognized by the American Diabetes Association and certified by the Iowa Department of Public Health, provides both individual and group instruction. New classes are offered each month. Meal planning, exercise, medication and monitoring are covered in the program. For more information, please call:
