At Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, our Cardio-Pulmonary department is designed to help people with Coronary Artery Disease and people who may have breathing difficulties. Our staff at EMH understands the difficulties and life changes that coronary heart disease and breathing problems may cause. The staff will help individuals improve their quality of life through emotional support, exercise and education. With the staff's guidance, participants have improved their lives. Sessions include one hour of exercise three times per week and one hour of education one day per week. Family members are encouraged to attend and participate in educational sessions.

Meet Our Staff

Rick Tjaden Fitness Coordinator
Rick works in the fitness center as the fitness coordinator for the “Healthy Hearts” program. He is certified as a personal trainer from the ASFA. He completed his Associate of Arts Degree at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, then continued his education at Buena Vista University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services. Rick is an American Heart Association and American Red Cross certified CPR Instructor. He is also trained in Body Composition Testing and Analysis.

Jan Foster Fitness Instructor
Jan works in the department as a fitness instructor. She received her teaching degree from UNI, and has spent time in the classroom all over the world, from Ames, Iowa to Germany, Spain and Japan.

Ann Brunkhorst Cardiac Rehabilitation Assistant
Ann works in the department as a Cardiac Rehabilitation Assistant. She holds a certification in Cardiac Rehabilitation Telemetry. Ann received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Design, Family and Consumer Science from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She is CPR certified, and has also completed Hospice training.

Nikki Knoblock, RN/BSN Cardiac Rehab Nurse
Nikki works in the department as a Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse. She Graduated from Allen College, Waterloo, Iowa. Specialty nursing experience includes working open heart step-down, interventional cardiology, and cardiac/vascular patient care. Nikki also works with patients at EMH and with local nursing students.
